I don't often post pictures of my own babies. People are always saying "You must have so many great pictures of your kids" I do have some that I love but it is definitely difficult to get great shots of them. Getting a shot of all three looking normal is virtually impossible! There is much bribery involved.....last nights bribe was 'spiderman fruit snacks'. Each has his moments where they want to just be with Mom and let me shoot away...without complaint! I love it when they decide it is a good time to be like that.

I got some great shots of my kids last night and the night before of the littlest alone. They are growing so quickly it is hard to believe it was almost nine years ago my oldest was born.....time flies when you are having fun, and we are having fun.

They are crazy, they are silly, they are boys, they are mine. I love them more than anything in the world.

So often I get asked "What should they wear?"
Co-ordination is the key....not too matchy-matchy....just nicely co-ordinated!

You can definitely got to websites like The Gap and Old Navy for inspiration, they always have an 'in' colour of the season so they have tons of co-ordinated outfits for all! What they should wear should also depend on where your session is....urban, beach or a park like setting.

Mini Sessions in Kingston?

Hey all....I'm thinking about setting up a weekend to go to Kingston and do a day of mini sessions.
Before I go to the trouble of setting up a location and all that good stuff I wanted to know if there was enough interest....
The mini sessions would be 1/2 price session fee-so 30.00 for 15-20min sessions with a max of 2 kids with 6-10 proofs

They would take place at an outdoor location in the Kingston area(of my choosing), probably in May.

(Disclaimer-This is a totally personal post...with nothing to do with Photography AT all!)

Okay...actually I don't like pie much. That being said.....I do like Punch Bowl Market Pie....A LOT. The market is still closed season still, I have heard they are busy preparing to open. They are located on the picturesque Escarpment of Stoney Creek at 136 Ridge Road.(Big red barn, you can't miss it)
I kid you not, it really is the best pie I have ever had and coming from a gal who really doesn't care much for pie that is saying a ton! I am a very VERY big fan of the apple pie. They carry tons of other kinds too though, and I have recently learned their Peninsula Pie(which is a combo of various different fruits) is their signature pie.

They make their pies from scratch, thats right kids, these pies are not made out of a factory on some assembly line....there are bakers, real live bakers baking these babies! You can also get them frozen and ready to be put in your oven-I swear these are just as great!

At this point I have a pie filled diet....honestly I probably have too much pie in my diet....but I just can't stop myself. They are available at Elm Grocery, which makes them all too easy for me to get!

I wish I had taken a picture of my last pie to show you how stuffed full of fruit these are. They are so worth EVERY penny!
Anyway...thats my thoughts on the best pie EVER!
I promise to take a picture next time I have some!

Feeling good!!

I guess that kind of title tells it all.

I am doing wonderfully....although I still have a little healing to do...thats nothing!

My 4 year old asked me, while we browsed at Toys R Us, what I wanted for Christmas. My slightly emotional self, I got a little teary and he said to me "you just want us to be Happy right Mom?" He is so right.....I just want us all to be a happy healthy family.

We met with the doctor on Monday and she had some fabulous news....a downgraded cancer and the news of NO CHEMO!!! There were a lot of tears of joy and shock that day!

This is truly all I wanted and needed to make this Christmas perfect.

I am looking forward to the new year and taking clients and getting all back to normal!!

Funny I should need to say this right after my holiday deadline post....none of it applies now though.

I am copying and pasting this because I just can't type it all again:

I truly have an amazing life. I have the most wonderfully perfect husband and three perfectly perfect boys a great house in the making. A photography business that is booming. An all round really good life.
Although my great life is great....we all have private stuff that goes on...in the quiet times ya know...that stuff you just keep to yourself and deal with alone.
I ahve had bladder cancer off and on for 8 years. It is so quickly and non invasively dealt with it seems more of a hassle to go get checked and then usually once a year have a tumour removed. I take it very seriously, though, of course. I never miss a check up or skip an appointment. I had my last Surgery for my bladder on Oct. 22. I went in to the hospital and I came out after surgery feeling EXACTLY the same. So a very easy surgery to go through.
My bladder doc ordered a ctscan of my kidneys 3 months ago. They found a small cyst on my left ovary. I didn't sleep well for a very long time with worries of what if it is not a cyst.
Fast fwd to Monday Nov 3. I go in to have a small laproscopic surgery to remove the cyst (normally not done just yet but because of my history the gyno wanted to be sure) I tell my husband on the way to the hospital "if they find something bad and come to ask you what to do tell them to take out anything, everything, whatever they need to." I woke up to a complete hystorectomy and the newly discovered fact that I have ovarian cancer. They are pretty sure they got all of it...but I will have to have chemo to be sure.
Along with the pain meds and grogginess of waking up after surgery this is a freakin' lot to take in!
Still I am finding it hard to believe...but I am tough, I really am. I have my perfect life to LIVE for. I don't know what I would do without my husband, or my children or any of the fantastic people who have stepped forward to offer help, or dropped off food, sent flowers....or even listened to me go on and on.(especially in my highly sedated state!!)

To all my beloved clients:

I will unfortunately not be taking any clients until I know what I can handle. I have to recover from surgery and then decide what will happen and how up to taking clients I am during chemo.
Please do not hesitate to contact me via email for anything you may need. I am still editing a few sessions and will get those done in a timely fashion...I promise.

I know you all are probably thinking I have lost it....but there is a very good reason for this.

I want to let you all know with lots of time.

If you want pictures for the holiday season or you want custom photo Christmas cards designed and printed you need to book your holiday sessions soon.

In order to get your cards designed and printed and ready for you to pick up within an acceptable amount of time for you to send to family and friends print orders must be in to me by Nov. 1, 2008. (If you need prints/cards after this date there may be a fee for rush processing added by the lab)

Hopefully later this week or early next week I will have some samples up of Christmas cards I will be offering this year.

So the point to this is book soon for your sessions if you are planning on getting cards or needing prints for Christmas....I don't want to disappoint anyone.

Oh and one other thing I should mention...

Life has been busy and tons of changes are happening around here!
Some of you may have heard I am venturing into wedding and engagement photography...
I do not have any plans on wedding photography taking over...I will only be booking a limited amount of weddings. I do think a new love of mine will be engagement photography....maybe I should call it something else....like love sessions :-) I don't know yet...but something that better describes couples in love and includes all couples and not just the ones getting married. Well anyway...the point is now is the time to get in on these sessions....I have tons of ideas and can't wait to share them all here with you.
Now...I love child photography...love love love it. I feel like I have been very preoccupied with other life happenings lately and photography has taken a back seat.
I do however have taken a few shots I'd like to share with you all.

I was so worried about my session last night....the lighting and weather had been awful all day
I got to the location and the light was GORGEOUS!!!!

I will be booking special mini sessions on 3 evenings in July
The dates will be July 15, 16, and 17. With the first session starting @7pm

For returning clients I am offering these mini sessions with no session fee.

For new clients there will be a small session fee of $20.

A mini session is just as it sounds...a mini version of a normal session with me. These sessions will only last for 30 minutes at most and I will show only 6-10 proofs.
Due to the fast paced nature of these sessions I can not offer any family mini sessions.
The minis will only be offered for 1 or 2 children as 30 minutes is just not enough time for more.
The sessions will take place at an outdoor location yet to be decided.
So it is probably best if little ones are at least walking.

Doesn't summer always seem sooooo busy??

Lets have a little chat about cancer a topic so very close to my heart.
I know, I know seems like not the lightest subject matter for a child photography blog but this is important stuff here!

Everyone has been subjected to cancer be it a family member, a friend or even yourself.
Cancer affects so many people on a daily basis. It has become and important part of YOUR life whether you have it or not-somebody YOU know does have it. We need to be aware and be strong for ourselves and for the ones we love.

A few new stats taken from The Canadian Cancer Society website:

*This year alone approximately 166,400 Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer.

*Almost 40% of Canadian women and almost 45% of men will develop cancer during their lifetimes.

The whole point to my post here is:
I'm working on a project and I need your help. I'm looking to provide a quick mini session for about 20 people who are dealing with cancer.. Keep that blog title in mind. The basic gist of this project is cancer awareness and support and most importantly-HOPE. With volunteers I will go into greater detail as to what I am doing and thinking...I don't have everything set in stone as of yet.

I'd rather not at this point go into too much more detail about the project on here but I will say it is important.

I am asking for your help.

Do you have a loved one who is dealing with cancer or is a cancer survivor?
Any cancer, any person...men, women ,
young, or old.

At this point I have 3 volunteers I am hoping for 20 .

To clarify exactly what I am asking:
I need people living with cancer,be it in remission or active or under-going treatment, to allow me to photograph them. These pictures will be used in some public form or another. I am working everything out still on exactly what that will be. The end product proceeds will go to cancer research in Canada.

**Volunteers will have a complimentary studio session with me and will receive an 8X10 (or smaller if you choose) print from the session.

Looks like collections are what you want most. Thats not to say that other custom items and a referral program won't be introduced in the future but for now I'll focus on getting some collections put together for you. I'm hoping to have them avail. by the weekend. It is hard work figuring out what should go into a collection so the weekend is my goal but there are no guarantees!
It has also come to my attention that although square cropped pictures are really cool there are some people out there who have mentioned to me they are worried about purchasing the square crops because they don't know where to find frames.
I have decided to offer you the option of having your square cropped prints framed for an extra fee. At this time I am able to offer framed square prints in only the 10X10 and 12X12 sizes. They will come in a 20X20 inch frame with a matte sized to the print. They will be avail in black, white, and a med wood colour all with a light ivory matte.
I will be on a hunt for a frame to fit a 20X20 print as well.

Ever Changing

I suppose, as a new business grows there are always changes to occur. I haven't offered any collections as of yet but I have started thinking about them. I'd like to have your input on a few things(see poll at right): Please cast your Vote!

Collections-If I were to offer collections they would be customizable in that there would not be single pose chosen to fill the whole collection. for example
a collection containing 1-11X14, 2-8X10 and 5-5X7 could be 8 different pictures

Referral program: I'm thinking something like a free print of a specific size for each referal-for you and the person you refer to me.

Lastly other Unique Custom photo items: This might include things like photo jewelery and purses

I'd love your thoughts on these things

oh and lastly...what is a photography blog without a picture???

Storyboards, Wall hangings, and Canvas

I wanted to take a minute to share some new things I am offering.
I have had some questions about storyboards and what they are and what they look like, so thats where we will start.

Storyboards are a fun modern way to show off your prints, all sizes of storyboards from 5X5-20X20 come mounted on styrene for stability and ease of use. You can have theme put into frames, but the fresh modern appearance of them makes them perfect for leaning on a shelf or displaying on a small easel.
Storyboards are a series of pictures displayed together on one print sometimes with a little saying included to add to the 'story'. I am offering mini storyboards as well, a mini storyboard is the perfect gift for a grandparent or other relative. Both the 5X5 and the 5X10 storyboards are the perfect size for a desk.
I am very happy to be offering the "Defined" series on my storyboards, although I do have lots of other ideas for them.
A few samples of the 5X5 and the 5X10-they are also avail. in and square size and in a 10X20 size.
Similar to Storyboards I am also offering wall hangings. Wall hangings are avail in 2 sizes 10X10 and 12X12 they are strung with ribbon in a co-ordinating colour and are perfect for nurseries and childrens bedrooms

I am also happy to announce the arrival of the CANVAS.
Canvas mounted prints are absolutely the most gorgeous prints I have seen to date. The image POPS right off the canvas. Even though the canvas is textured the print is still sharp and perfect.

I will be bring all of these samples to sessions with me for up-close viewing

Thinking Outside the 4X6 box!

Everybody has seen the traditional crop of a basic 4X6 photograph, but why not try something a little different like a 5X5(or larger)square? Or maybe a long rectangle like 10X20
Squares and other non-traditional crops are fun and so contemporary and custom looking.

First is the original 4X6 crop

Next we have a square crop:

Lastly a 10X5 crop:

All the pictures look great in any of these crops but I wanted to put it out there that its okay to think outside of the 4X6 box.
Another thing I will be introducing in the next few weeks is prints on canvas. These are your prints stretched over stretcher bars and ready to hang with no framing needed.

They will look something like this:

Spring???

I stepped outside today and realized...it just might be happening...Spring that is!

This Winter I ventured into studio lighting...and I fell in love with it...I thought it might be all I wanted to do. Then today happened...I brought Jack outside and chased him around up and down the block snapping away. I do love the casual nature of outoor photography. I love the natural light and the way eyes sparkle.
Don't get me wrong, I still love studio lighting but I guess just like when the first snow falls I realize I don't actually HATE winter(it is kinda pretty!)today when I stepped outside with my littlest man I realized I still love natural light and outdoor photography too.

On a side note: The new website and all the new branding is almost ready for launching. So keep checking for that...

So what everyone has been waiting for...the photograph for today...
He's a little squinty in this one but I love that sparkle in his eyes!

My kids woke up and ran down to do their hunt and the Webkinz addicts they are were in love in an instant with Snow-cone the Penguin and Roary the Lion. Of course they have not stopped eating chocolate eggs since 7am-they are so gonna crash later!!
As for me I've started cooking my Easter Spectacular!! I have been so excited to cook this dinner since I heard our kitchen would be ready. Ready it is....it is perfect and beautiful. I just love everything about it.
